Principal's Message

2019 was a great year!

We started 2019 with the #MyDreamSchool campaign. It was a campaign that aimed to engage both staff members and students in discussing how we can make BGSS a dream school for everyone. By the end of the year, we had received more than a hundred suggestions, and we had implemented a dozen or two. We will implement more suggestions this year. Some of the suggestions we received include changing the classroom furniture, having the flag-raising ceremony in the hall, installing vending machines, providing a student locker service, and having a BGSS Polo Tee which students could wear daily. I am very happy to see both students and teachers wearing our BGSS Polo Tee today. We do not only look cool, but we also feel cool!

We build confidence in our students by empowering and emboldening them with frequent opportunities to share on stage. Many students shared very well on what they learnt from their competitions and their key takeaways from participating in various school programmes. In the process, students were publicly affirmed of their excellent work. They also honed the important skill of public speaking and acquired the good habit of introspection.  We will continue with these efforts in 2020 to make BGSS a school that is encouraging, motivating and inspiring.

The school environment has improved significantly. Besides the refurbished library, we also have a brand new Indoor Sports Hall, school field and classroom furniture. This year, we will continue to improve the learning spaces, including re-surfacing our parade square and basketball courts. We are also partnering with our alumnus, Lucas Tan Lee Hao from Class of 2010, a budding interior designer, to re-design some of our learning spaces to make the school a more welcoming and conducive place for everyone.

In terms of student outcomes, our Uniform Groups, Performing Arts and Sports CCAs performed very well at the various competitions in 2019. Not forgetting the amazing football match at Jalan Besar Stadium where we walked out as champions! Last but not least, the graduating students also did themselves proud by achieving a fantastic set of results for their GCE 'N' and 'O' Level examinations.

The above is possible because everyone in BGSS, students and staff members alike, put in our best effort in all that we do. The school belongs to all of us, and together, we build BGSS to be our dream school!

We will continue all these efforts in 2020 and more. This year is an exciting year for us because we will be having our quadrennial large-scale school musical, Brillante, at the Capitol Theatre. We are also honoured to be chosen to perform in the National Day Parade 2020. Many exciting things are happening in BGSS, and there are many opportunities for everyone.

We will grow from strength to strength and strive for the best in all that we do.

Because excellence is not just our goal,

it is who we are.
